MANAGEMENT GURU PATRICK LENCIONI ADVISES TORONTO CEOs ON WEATHERING THE RECESSION AND GETTING READY FOR THE FUTURE

Lencioni advises CEO Global Network membership that now is the time to build a better team and not panic

Toronto, ONTARIO – (March 25, 2009) – One of the business world’s top management gurus is holding court at The Fairmont Royal York in Toronto today. CEO Global Network is proud to host Patrick Lencioni, author of eight best-selling books including, The Five Temptations of a CEO and Five Dysfunctions of a Team, at a workshop designed to help CEOs and other Executives develop outstanding management teams.

CEO Global Network (CEO GN) provides a forum for high-achieving CEOs and Executives to network, exchange ideas and learn strategies to improve the success of their companies and their lives. As a group, CEO Global Network members lead some of Canada’s fastest-growing companies, employ more than 10,000 people and contribute $5 billion in revenue to the Canadian economy.

“CEOs and Executives are under tremendous pressure these days to do more with less money,” says John Wilson, CEO and President, CEO Global Network. “Patrick’s program for developing better management teams is a great opportunity for our members to continue to initiate positive changes in their companies in an effort to help weather the recession at little financial cost.”

The workshop is one of several learning events held throughout the year by CEO GN for its membership. The organization also provides one-on-one professional development sessions, organizes regular group meetings between non-competing CEOs and executives for the exchange of ideas and business strategies, and offers members access to CEO Global Online.

Today’s workshop focuses on the lessons of Lencioni’s The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, which has a remained a fixture on national best-seller lists since it was first published in 2002. In his book, Lencioni argues that teamwork remains the ultimate competitive advantage. And genuine teamwork will allow your company to dominate any industry, against any competition, at any time.

Managing in a recession
While reluctant to jump on the down-economy-bandwagon, Patrick Lencioni says corporate leaders can use the economic downturn to their advantage.

“Use this time to invest in your organization’s future. Improve the functioning of the executive team, and their clarification of and recommitment to the organization’s values and purpose,” advises Lencioni. “Doing this will require a little time and energy, but very little money. And the payoff will be a meaningful advantage over competitors when the economy turns around again.”

“As we tread through unchartered economic territory, being able to draw on the wisdom of other CEOs on similar journeys and having CEO Global Network helping with the navigation is extremely helpful,” says Hugh MacKinnon, Chairman and CEO of Bennett Jones LLP.
